Urology & Surgical Services in Kathmandu

Dr. Saroj Giri — Consultant Urologist & General Surgeon
MBBS | MS (General Surgery) (NAMS) | MCh (Urology) (KU)

Dr. Saroj Giri provides individualized evaluation, treatment planning and selected surgical management for adult and appropriately selected pediatric urological, male reproductive, uro-oncological, laparoscopic and general surgical conditions in Kathmandu, Nepal. Recommendations depend on symptoms, examination, investigations, anatomy, age, overall health, previous treatment and clinical indications. No single procedure is suitable for every patient.

Kidney Stone Treatment & Urinary Stone Surgery

Evaluation and treatment for kidney stones, ureteric stones, bladder stones, complex or multiple stones, recurrent stones, obstructing stones, stone-related infection and urinary obstruction. Care may include metabolic stone evaluation and prevention planning.

Mini-PCNL in Kathmandu

Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (Mini-PCNL) is a minimally invasive technique that may be considered for appropriately selected kidney stones. Standard PCNL may be considered for other stone burdens or clinical situations.

RIRS, Flexible Ureteroscopy & Laser URS

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and flexible ureteroscopy use a small endoscope to reach selected kidney or upper-urinary-tract stones. Ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy may fragment and remove suitable ureteric or urinary stones. Other services include endoscopic stone removal, cystolithotripsy, ureteric stent insertion and stent removal.

Treatment selection considers stone size, number, location, anatomy, obstruction, infection, kidney function, previous procedures and patient factors. Search terms such as kidney stone treatment, Mini-PCNL, RIRS and laser URS in Kathmandu describe services that require clinical assessment before a treatment decision.

Prostate, Bladder & Lower Urinary Tract Services

Assessment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), enlarged prostate, weak urinary stream, difficulty starting urination, frequency, urgency, nocturia, incomplete emptying, prostatitis, urinary retention and catheter-dependent retention. Options may include medical treatment, TURP, bipolar TURP, endoscopic prostate surgery, laser prostate procedures and HoLEP where clinically indicated and available.

Bladder services include assessment of hematuria, recurrent or complicated UTI, painful urination, frequency, urgency, bladder stones, bladder outlet obstruction and other urinary disorders. Cystoscopy and TURBT may be considered for appropriately assessed bladder tumors.

Uro-Oncology & Urological Cancer Care

Dr. Saroj Giri provides urological cancer consultation, imaging and pathology review, surgical assessment, treatment planning, selected surgical management, postoperative follow-up and multidisciplinary cancer-care coordination when required. Cancer treatment depends on staging, pathology, imaging, overall health and the recommendations of the treating team.

Conditions assessed may include: prostate cancer and PSA-related concerns; kidney cancer, renal cell carcinoma and selected renal masses; bladder cancer, urothelial carcinoma and recurrent bladder tumors; renal pelvis and ureteric cancer, including upper-tract urothelial carcinoma; testicular tumors and germ-cell tumors; suspicious penile lesions or penile cancer; urethral tumors; and selected adrenal masses. An adrenal mass is not automatically cancer and may require imaging, endocrine assessment and specialist review.

Services may include: hematuria evaluation, cystoscopy, TURBT, testicular cancer surgical assessment, orchiectomy where indicated, partial or radical nephrectomy assessment, prostate cancer surgical assessment, ureteric or renal pelvis tumor assessment, penile or urethral cancer assessment, staging review, surveillance planning and coordination with oncology and other specialists.

Urethral Stricture & Reconstructive Urology

Evaluation of urethral stricture, recurrent obstruction and weak urinary stream. Depending on the location, length, recurrence and previous treatment, options may include dilation where appropriate, DVIU, urethrotomy, urethroplasty, buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty and selected urinary-tract reconstruction.

Pediatric Urology

Selected pediatric services include pediatric kidney, ureteric and bladder stones; pediatric ureteroscopy, laser stone treatment, RIRS and Mini-PCNL or PCNL in selected children; recurrent pediatric UTI; hydronephrosis; PUJ/UPJ obstruction; pediatric bladder disorders; hydrocele; phimosis; pediatric inguinal hernia; congenital urinary-tract conditions; and testicular or scrotal disorders.

Undescended Testis / Cryptorchidism

Assessment of palpable, non-palpable, inguinal, intra-abdominal and retractile testes. Orchidopexy/orchiopexy, laparoscopic orchidopexy for selected cases and associated inguinal hernia repair may be considered after examination and appropriate evaluation.

Male Reproductive, Sexual & Scrotal Health

Microsurgical Varicocelectomy

Varicocele evaluation may include clinical examination, semen-analysis review and testicular-size assessment. Microsurgical or Micro-Doppler-assisted varicocelectomy may be considered for selected symptomatic or infertility-associated varicocele. It may help identify and preserve important structures, but fertility or pregnancy outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Vasectomy & Vasectomy Reversal Consultation

Vasectomy is a surgical method of permanent male contraception. Consultation for microsurgical vasectomy reversal includes review of the time since vasectomy, semen assessment where appropriate, partner-related fertility considerations, alternatives and individualized outcome counseling. Availability of reversal surgery should be confirmed at the time of appointment.

Hydrocele, Testicular Pain & Scrotal Conditions

Services include evaluation of hydrocele, hydrocelectomy where indicated, varicocele, testicular pain or chronic orchalgia, scrotal swelling, epididymal conditions, testicular mass and other selected scrotal disorders.

Men’s Sexual Health

Confidential assessment for erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, Peyronie’s disease, penile curvature, hematospermia and related male sexual-health concerns. Treatment may involve medical, behavioral, counseling or surgical options according to the underlying cause. Complete correction or guaranteed results cannot be promised.

Phimosis, Paraphimosis & Circumcision

Evaluation of tight foreskin, recurrent balanitis, painful or difficult retraction and foreskin-related urinary or sexual problems. Options may include medical care, conventional circumcision, ZSR stapler circumcision where appropriate, selected revision procedures and complication management. Paraphimosis can compromise blood flow and requires urgent medical assessment.

Testicular Torsion & Urological Emergencies

Sudden severe testicular pain, acute scrotal swelling or a suddenly painful testicle requires immediate emergency assessment. Testicular torsion can threaten testicular viability. Urgent conditions may also include acute urinary retention, an obstructed infected kidney, an obstructing ureteric stone, severe renal colic, gross hematuria and urological trauma. Do not wait for a routine appointment during a suspected emergency.

Laparoscopic & General Surgery

Evaluation and laparoscopic or open repair of inguinal, bilateral, recurrent, umbilical, ventral, incisional and selected abdominal-wall hernias according to patient factors.

Gallbladder & Appendicitis

Assessment of gallstones, symptomatic gallbladder disease and cholecystitis, with laparoscopic cholecystectomy for suitable patients. Appendicitis, appendicular mass and selected abdominal emergencies may require laparoscopic or open appendectomy.

Breast & Anorectal Surgery

Evaluation of breast lumps, fibroadenoma, cysts, abscess, mastitis, benign breast disease and suspicious lesions, including imaging or biopsy coordination and selected excision procedures. Proctology services include hemorrhoids, piles, anal fissure and fistula-in-ano, with medical management, dietary advice, hemorrhoidectomy, lateral internal sphincterotomy, fistulotomy, seton placement, sphincter-preserving procedures and selected minimally invasive or laser-assisted treatment when appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mini-PCNL?
Mini-PCNL is a minimally invasive kidney-stone procedure using a smaller access tract; suitability depends on the stone and patient.

What is RIRS?
RIRS uses a flexible endoscope passed through the urinary passage to treat selected kidney or upper-tract stones, often with laser fragmentation.

What is the difference between RIRS and Mini-PCNL?
They use different access routes and are selected according to stone burden, location, anatomy, obstruction, infection and patient factors.

Can varicocele affect fertility?
It can be associated with abnormal semen parameters in some men. Evaluation is individualized and surgery cannot guarantee pregnancy.

What are common symptoms of an enlarged prostate?
Weak stream, hesitancy, frequency, urgency, nocturia, incomplete emptying and retention can occur and require assessment.

When should I see a urologist?
Seek evaluation for blood in urine, stones, recurrent UTI, urinary retention, persistent urinary symptoms, testicular or scrotal symptoms, male infertility or sexual-health concerns.
